Related to that last point, what exactly did their history make them? What kind of person is your character? Be thorough.
Debt
The debt was created when Suboshi murdered Tamahome's family. Maybe the Powers That Be couldn't get a hold of Suboshi, or maybe there was just bad timing with his death and everything. In any case, Tamahome is responsible for paying that debt, and he'll be a pretty good candidate for it. His family is priceless; the earnings will never be enough, and in his mind he'll never work hard enough.
Suitability
Time spent in Koriko means time spent away from Miaka. At the same time, Tamahome will be carrying the burden of Suboshi's debt… so basically Tamahome is going to be reeeeally distraught. The ordeal isn't going to be a hokey-pokey concept to him, either; rather, much in the way Miaka's origin was a reality to him, Koriko's plausibility will be equally strong. Maybe he's never heard of this place, but that doesn't matter. He'd never heard of Japan, either. This debt is going to be very real to him, as is his distance from Miaka. He'll do whatever it takes to lift the debt and to get back to Miaka.
